To make this easier and the ice already flavored, use freeze pops. It makes enough slushy to fill a dixie cup. My four year old can shave it himself since its not as hard as an ice cube, and if you have multiple kids everyone can pick a flavor and you don't end up with 10 pitchers of kool aid!

This is a classic. And it has all the good, and bad, parts that I remembered. It is great fun to make your own snowcone. My 7 year old daughter loves it. But, the crank is difficult to turn and I worried that she would hurt her fingers on the metal ice shredder part. Plus, the juice syrup is easy to make, and you can use fresh juice which is healthier, but it can be kind of messy. I think this can be a great addition to an OUTSIDE summertime playdate.

I remember having this toy when I was a child! Now, my son loves to bring it out when friends come to our house to play. We experiment with different flavors, it's lots of fun. It takes some patience to screw together the handle and it's too difficult for my 5 year old to shave the ice, but for the price, the technical difficulties are worth the trouble.
