Find buried treasure beneath the soil in your backyard, at the park or on the beach. Lightweight and specially sized for kids, this very sensitive metal detector includes a telescoping handle that flexes to reach even into and under odd spots. The professional LED display flashes red and green, and, thanks to the attached mini flashlight, you can continue your search in the dark. For ages 5 and up. Sorry, gift wrap is not available. Size Handle measures 39" long.

Comments about HearthSong Lighted Metal Detector:
The detector is sized well for children, but I'm not convinced yet about its sensitivity. I hid coins in the yard and even when they were lying flat the detector did not always pick them up.The dial is also very sensitive, and tricky for my son to set by himself (he's a very bright six). But he does really enjoy playing with it, and we will try it in some more locations.

Great toy!
By Lori

I bought this metal detector for my 7 year old daughter, who loves adventure, sleuthing, and just overrall having fun outdoors. She absolutely LOVES her metal detector! She can use it indoors and out, (indoors when its raining but she still feels like pretending to look for treasure) and she has actually found some treasure/money outside with it. It's a great little toy for kids, I highly recommend it! Only drawback would be that it doesnt come apart where we could possibly take it with us when we travel (on an airplane,etc.). We will be going to Puerto Rico in a few weeks, and I'd really like for her to be able to use it on the beach. I'll see what I can work out though, she loves it!

Fun for awhile

This was fun for awhile and then our 9 year old lost interest. It is not very versatile in terms of creative play.
Light weight Metal Detector

I was very disappointed in his metal detector. It's appearance isn't bright-cheery enough for a very young child and is too "toy-ish" to meet expectations of an 7 yr old. Dubious quality in design/construction.
