I bought this as a gift for my young niece, but when I received it, I felt it would be too tedious for her to complete. I ended up making the quilt myself. It was great fun! I gave it to my toddler aged niece who carries it everywhere she goes. After many washings it has maintained it shape and vibrant colors. I think it would be more realistic to market this product for preteen aged children, however.

The strings at the end of the Knot-a-Quilt squares are cut too short to work with easily. I could barely work with them and my 7-year-old granddaughter, for whom I bought it, was in tears of frustration. I called the company who made it and they were supposed to send a replacement item (I could select another item of equal value) and they said it would take two weeks to show up. That was three weeks ago. Nada. This is the first time I've had any problem with a Hearthsong purchase. Everything else I have bought for my grandkids has more than lived up to expectations.

The Knot A Quilt met our requirements on many levels; it is attractive, functional and requires a group effort to assemble in 30 minutes or less.
We found the ties to be a bit short for ease of use by adults. Of course, if the ties were longer, the squares would have to be a bit larger as well. I cannot comment on the wash and wearability because all of our quilts were gifted to the needy.
The response to incorporating quilt making into our custom teambuilding programs for relief packages has been great! The participants get into the activity because they support the cause and connect with the opportunity to send their love and support through a handmade quilt. The Hope for Haiti team hugs us each time we make another drop for delivery. We plan to expand the Knot A Quilt program into a charitable program to provide blankets to the homeless this fall.

My 8 yr old got this for Christmas. She had been excited about it in the catalog. She quickly lost interest in it when the pieces were difficult to come together. She only put together three or four squares before she was frustrated. The squares pucker so that the quilt doesn't lie flat. It's easy to miss and tie the wrong parts together if you're young. I would have to have done the squares w/ her in order for the quilt to lay flat. I would recommend it for someone who makes the loop potholders w/ ease and never misses a loop. It's at about that level. My girl is not there yet unless I do it w/ her ( most 8 yr old girls want to do things independently). Also, the quilt will have holes where the pieces are joined.

Bought this kit for my 9-year-old for Xmas. She had it together in about four days. It has been on her bed ever since. We have even washed it...on gentle...with excellent results.

This is a cute idea, however, I think my daughter (6) was too young to get it. It requires a lot of work and patience. I would say more suited for an 8-9 yr old. We will save it until my daughter is ready.

My daughter enjoyed laying out the pattern and knotting the quilt together. She's not yet finished, but when she does finally get it done, I'm sure she'll feel a great sense of accomplishment. She says she will take in on long trips in the car to cover up with.

Attractive to kids as a fun throw. Knots harder to tie than expected. The tails you knot stretch out of shape easily and sometimes tear if you pull to hard on them - not easy for a child to do this well without stretching the tabs

This was so appealing that my granddaughter began making it ON her birthday and didn't want to stop! A great project to teach beginner handcrafting without having to use needles, thread, glue or other materials.

I bought this kit for my eight-year old granddaughter. She was excited about it but could not tie the knots very well. She got so worn out trying to do it, that I helped her finish it. A good suggestion might be to list the age on the box as 10+. Otherwise, it's a great idea.

The first time I purchased a Knot A Quilt, my then five year old granddaughter and I made it for her parents for Christmas. She loved it so much, she kept taking it to her own bed, so last year, I bought another one and made it for her for Christmas....but her little sister felt left out so now I have bought a third one to make for her bed! The colors are amazing, and so many of the crafters who have seen me with it have asked where I got it. It can be taken on an airplane and worked on while flying, to the office to do during lunch, or sitting in front of the TV in the evenings. The vibrant colors make it easy to make a pattern and the simple knotting technique means even a five year old beginner can do it!

Although colorful and great to look at in the package this blanket was not easy to make. I had thought this would be a fun project for my 9 year old and I on a cold winter day but found that making the knots was a bit difficult and my child lost interest after the first one. I ended up spending a week or so working on this blanket in evenings. After it was completed I couldn't see a practicle use for it. The fleece knots are not strong enough to hold up to any type of use.
