Grandson has been learning the alphabet and enjoyed finding the letter on the back of each animal and the matching it to the correct pocket.
If the animals were easier to recognize, the next step would be for him to associate the name of the animal with the sound of the letter. C for COW would be great, but animal is not anything that resembles a cow.

This product looks lovely but if you don't want to spend a lot of time tidying up or searching for lost pieces, this is not great. There's no way to velcro or attach the figures into the pockets so everything ends up everywhere and pretty soon, things are lost. Great concept but in reality, if your child like to move things around etc., it's not a great toy. Good for a kid that sits in one place or if you have a small area free of nooks and crannies to hide things in.

My 1-year old friend liked the animal train. She can hold the animals easily. The animals fit nicely into the pockets. The train is very pretty.I was very disappointed, however, in the personalization. The name was so obviously off-center that I wished I had not asked for her name to be on the train.[...]

This was a gift for my one and half year old niece. Both she and her parents love it. The pieces fit perfectly for a toddler to hold and examine, they're soft and very colorful. The only thing I would improve is that that some of the animals are a bit hard to recognize...there is a cheat sheet for the parents though.

My daughter loves playing with this toy and all the goodies inside. She has enjoyed mastering the zipper and putting the animals in & out and is only now beginning to learn the letters. We haven't even lost an animal yet!
