by Richard Darsie
Cat's Cradle, Crow's Foot, Jacob's Ladder - we remember well the happy hours spent playing string games handed down to us by our mothers and grandmothers. Thankfully, Richard Darsie's careful, step-by-step instructions and photographs will help us teach our children. Three rainbow-hued cord loops that are much easier to work with than the yarn we used as kids are also included.A special kind of heirloom for ages 8 and up.SizeHardcover, 8" x 8", 95 pages

About Me Everyday Reader
Because this is a gift for a 10 year old girl, I haven't seen it in action yet. But I like the format, the illustrations and the clear instructions. I think she will enjoy it!

About Me Casual Reader
I purchased 1 for a gift & then 3 more. This has been a great gift & my husband has had fun with it too. It's a good thing the book comes with the colored strings, because the memory isn't what it used to be.
Hooray!! Great Activity

I bought this for my 12 year old daughter's birthday. She hasn't put it down! She takes it on car trips, to friends' houses and to Grandma's. It brought back a lot of memories for me as well! The book is easy to follow with step by step directions and photos that explain what to do. I would recommend it for children over the age of 10, if wanting it to be done independently. With help, children over the age of 8 would also be successful.

3 different string lengths
from Seven Fields, PA
We bought this book to learn how to make a variety of string shapes. Like most string books, this one is hard to follow. It is easy to get lost from one step to another. The pictures definitely help. We like the 3 strings that come with the book. They have no knots. We have not learned new string shapes from the book. There is always one step we can't follow. We have given up on the book and put it on the shelf.
Bottom Line No, I would not recommend this to a friend
